Amaravathi Dam is across the Amaravathi river in Tirupur district, Tamil Nadu, South India.
It was initially built for irrigation and flood control in 1957
Besides its initial purpose, it now provides 4 meg watts of electrical power, fishing for the tribals and have a large crocodile population.
We travelled to this dam on the way back from a visit to the Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple.
This location should be in your travel when going to Palani.
Its around 40 km from Palani, around 160km from my home town Thrissur in Kerala.
The time I was able to spend here was very less and hence I was able to take a few photos only.
People with me were not in a mood to climb the stairs..
From what info that I have got, the scene from the top of the dam is pretty cool.
