Cherpu Bhagavathy Temple is located in the Thrissur district, Kerala State and is one of the most ancient temples in India.
This is said to be one of the 108 Durga Temples built by Lord Parasurama.
This temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga or Bhagavathy in the form of Bhoomi Devi, the consort of Lord Vishnu.
The Goddess plays a major role in two of the most popular Pooram festivals of Kerala.
These are the famous Peruvanam Pooram and Arattupuzha Pooram.
During the Arattupuzha pooram, she is one among the main diety who participate and during kootiezhunallippu, she stands on the right side of Thriprayar thevar with Urakathamma thiruvadi who is sridevi stands on left side of thevar with chathakudam Shasta who accompanies urkathamma.
In Cherpu Bhagavathy Temple, Bhoomi Puja and Thiruvona Puja are very special. Thiruvona Puja is done for brides and grooms.
Temple is facing west.
The visiting times are
5:30 am to 10:00 am
5:30 pm to 7:30 pm
Please do wear formal clothing – boys can wear trousers or mundu men can wear mundu, girls/women can wear churidar, saree etc. if you want to enter into the inner sanctum of the temple. Please don’t wear trousers or pants or jeans.
