I had bought Mastech MS2101 Digital AC/DC Clamp Meter for business use some time ago. So this will be my long term comprehensive review.
There are lots of cheap clamp meters out there. But most of them can only measure AC only, not DC. This creates some big problems in my line of work (where I have to measure DC charging and discharging currents of inverters, starting or cranking currents of automotive batteries or automobiles).
So we needed a budget clamp meter which could measure DC also. We went to the market to search for a good one.
Mastech MS2101 Digital AC/DC Clamp Meter
Believe me, this was not our original choice. Wherever we inquired we didn’t get any positive views by most people about Mastech.
But we went ahead and purchased it. At that time its cost was around 4500 INR. Now you can get it for much lesser amount.
So far our experience with it has been remarkable. It can measure most of the stuff that we want.
AC Voltage – up to 750V
DC Voltage – up to 1000V
AC Current – up to 1000A
DC Current – up to 1000A
It also contains the basic capacitance, resistance measurements that the other multimeters have.
But there is also option for measuring frequency & temperature (using a temperature sensor).
We are normally rough with our equipment and we used this in a not so good manner. Probably it lasted this long is because of the carry bag that it came. This was not the usual leather or resin carry bag. This is a hard plastic one in which the meter and the accessories fits in. I am not sure if the newer models comes in this carry case. I think its different in different countries.
I would rate this as 4 out of 5.
Update: We have a small issue with the clamp meter. It had fallen from my hand (any clamp meter without its protective case is a very sensitive equipment) now measuring current using clamp is not very accurate. May need repairs.
Do check out my other reviews.
