Online Betting is getting a lot of popularity these days. Is it legal? It’s still considered as a grey area by many.

This creates confusion for most Indians like me as most of us don’t like to break any laws.
Online Betting – Indian Laws
The problem is online betting is not mentioned in Indian betting laws (the Public Gaming Act of 1867 makes no reference to online betting), and therefore is not formally prohibited.
So the central government has left it to the states to decide whether they want to legalize online betting or outlaw it within their own state.
Now some states like Sikkim, the local government is actively trying to legalize and regulate online betting.
While some states like Maharashtra have more stricter laws, other state laws are still in the grey area.
Now its common that many states allow games of skill but do not allow games of luck.
A game of skill is a game where you as the player, can increase your own chances of success by learning more or gaining knowledge about the game.
On the other hand, a game of luck is a game where you as the player, have no impact on the outcome of the game.
So playing Roulette is a game of luck while betting on horse racing is considered a skill since you can win if You know or predict the proper conditions for win.
