Slim SEO is perhaps the most light weight seo plugin available for wordpress, made by eLightUp, this plugin is suitable for beginners who have very little idea (or no idea) about SEO configurations – because there isn’t any configuration needed for Slim SEO. Just install and activate it. No further steps.
What Slim SEO do for you
It will automatically do the following
1. Optimize meta title tag
2. Optimize meta description tag
3. Optimizes and displays Open Graph meta tags for your posts when sharing on Facebook.
4. Optimizes the article to be displayed in a large card form for Twitter.
5. XML Sitemap.
6. Redirect attachment page to the attachment file url
7. Automatically adds missing alt attribute for images
8. Breadcrumbs (I suggested this in the worpdress support forum and the plugin author “Tran Ngoc Tuan Anh” implemented this soon).
9. Prevent Content Stealing from RSS feed.
10. Automatically adds the some structured data to the website via JSON-LD
Advantages of Slim SEO
1. Very small size – just around 23KB zip file at the time of writing this. So one of the smallest plugins and perhaps the smallest SEO plugin. Please correct me if I am wrong.
2. Very easy on resources – Good for Shared hosting environment.
3. Easy to Use – no configuration necessary. So really good for beginners.
4. XML Site map – It will create an XML site map which is good for search engines to spider your website. No need to use a separate plugin for sitemaps.
5. Breadcrumbs is very useful for search engines to have a better view of your entire site.
Disadvantages of Slim SEO
1. May be a bit too basic – bare necessities plugin.. If you are used to Yoast or All in One SEO or Rank Math – you won’t find the features provided by them in this (The features provided by those is very high). So advanced users won’t like this plugin. This is the only negative point that I have about this plugin. But this is getting slowly out of the way as the author is continuously adding more features to the plugin.
Final Thoughts about Slim SEO
WordPress script should have SEO as its integrated part. Since it doesn’t have SEO integrated, if any self hosted wordpress people are not using other SEO plugins due to difficulty in configuring them should use this one. The plugin is under constant development by the plugin author and is responding to your queries and suggestions. So this is a good sign. I have been using this in 2 of my friends sites that I maintain (or not maintaining as Slim SEO does all the SEO work automatically). So my suggestion for newbies is to try out Slim SEO plugin.
