Sree Thirunelli Mahavishnu Temple is located on the sides of Brahmagiri hills, in Wayanad district, Kerala State, South India.
It is one of the oldest temples in Kerala, dating more than 1000 years old.
The temple opening timings are from 5:30 AM to 12 PM and 5.30 AM to 8 PM.
Wear formal dress like shirts, pants, dhoti, pyjamas, or mundu for men and saree/churidar for women. Don’t wear shorts or mini skirts or other revealing clothes.
Legends says that this temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu is said to be made by Lord Bhrahma.
The temple draws devotees who mostly comes to perform ancestral rites or Bali Tharpanam. These rituals are performed on the Papnashani stream which is a bit far away from the temple.
Panchatheertham is the holy pond in the temple.
Another specialty of the temple is that there is no temple well. The water for the rituals inside the temple is transported in a ancient stone water way from the mountains to the temple.
There is also a Gundika temple dedicated to Lord Shiva a bit far away. This is small rock temple.
