St. Francis Xavier’s Church is located in Chevoor, Thrissur district, Kerala State, South India. Its located a few hundred meters west to Chevoor center. Its a Syro Malabar Church, established in 1820, belongs to Archdiocese of Thrissur.
The church is around 9 km from Thrissur town, around 15km from Irinjalakuda.
Before the church here, Christians here had to travel to Pazhuvil to attend the holy mass. In 1815, a small chapel was built by people here in the name of St. Mary.
The holy mass was said to be done on 30th Aug 1820 for the fist time.
Around 1870 a new church was constructed with the statue of St. Francis Xavier. This church was extended in 1964 and 1974.
In 1996, the construction of the new church began, which was blessed by Mar Joseph Kundukulam, the archbishop of Thrissur on 19th Jan 1997. This is the church that we see now.
