Guns Akimbo is a 2019 action, black comedy film written and directed by Jason Lei Howden starring Daniel Radcliffe, Samara Weaving, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Ned Dennehy, Grant Bowler, Edwin Wright, Rhys Darby etc.
The story is about a programmer Miles Lee Harris (Daniel Radcliffe), who is pretty much screwed in both work and personal like. He gets his high as an online troller.
Things get out of hand when he starts trolling an underground fight club known as Skizm in which contestents fight to the death. Riktor (Ned Dennehy) who is the owner of Skizm and his goons Dane (Mark Rowley), Effie (Racheal Ofori), and Fuckface (Set Sjöstrand).
They beat the crap out of Miles, drugs him and bolts guns into both his hands (hence the name guns akinbo – since akimbo is a combat technque which uses one weapon in each hand – usually knives, but in this case guns). Now Miles is pitched to fight the most deadly figher in Skizm – Nix (Samara Weaving).
Guns Akimbo – My Opinion
The action sequences are pretty much of a crap and the CGI isn’t up to the mark, maybe because of the low budget. But this is a funny movie. There are pretty much funny scenes everywhere – like Miles trying to go to toilet with both guns attached to hands, trying hard not to blow his balls off.
Daniel Radcliffe is good as Miles – the dorky game developer/programmer, Ned Dennehy is also good as Riktor – the pleasantly insane villain. But the standout performer in my opinion is Samara Weaving as Nix. She blazed in her role as the psycho killer..
If you loved over the top movies like Shoot ‘Em Up, Crank – then this is definitely the movie for you. The movie is definitely flawed, but its a easy on the brain fun movie.
